Ho Chi Minh desired to achieve a unified, independent Vietnam under communist rule, hence leading the country into two wars. Previously known as Nguyen Ai Quoc (Nguyen the Patriot) in France, he changed it to Ho Chi Minh (Shedder of Light). The people called him Uncle (Bac) Ho throughout his presidency. It was a name that matched his style of leadership: leading the masses with unyielding propaganda, diplomacy, and nationalism. After his death, his works left a legacy of Vietnamese pride and consolidation. The nation's victory proved superpowers were beatable. Now, he is a respected leader in his country and the world.
